GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL POSITIONS:
- Each officer must have 5-10 hours of availability each week. Some offices require
more time commitment than others, so each officer’s estimated time commitment
is ranked in the range from low to high.
- This includes at least:
- 2 hours devoted to office hours per week
- 2 hours devoted to officer meeting, general meeting, or event per week
- All elected officers need to make a commitment to their duties for the entire year,
from June until June. All appointed officers need to make a commitment to their
duties for the academic year, from September until June.
- You must be in Psi Chi to be a Psi Chi Officer
- You must be in Psychology Club to be a Psychology Club officer
ELECTED POSITIONS:
PRESIDENT
- Oversee all other officer activities and projects; work with Vice President
- Ensure activity and project coordinators have everything they need to prepare events - Liaison to other university groups:
- Present info about the clubs at “degree planning sessions” run by the Psychology
Undergraduate Program (this visibility helps us recruit members)
- Maintain relationships with Student Life and Student Governance (make sure you
are getting timely information about campus-wide activities, HOR meetings, special
funding, etc.)
- Attend Student Government meetings (must attend three House of Representative
meetings each quarter, or appoint a representative)
- Organize volunteers for department-related activities (e.g., TechFest; be a role
model)
- Plan Calendar
- Prepare Meeting Agendas
- Note to Psi Chi President: Annual Activities Report due to National Office in June
- Skills: Leadership, Initiative, Networking, Organization, Communication, Time
management
- Estimated Time Requirement: High
VICE PRESIDENT- Share responsibilities with President, especially with regard to club events
- Organize specific events; Guide most urgent causes of the group
- Oversee:
- Marketing/ Public Relations – flyers, e-mails, chalking, etc.
- Photographer/ Historian – maintain bulletin board
- Refreshments Committee – set-up/clean-up meetings & events
- Skills: Leadership, Organization, Creativity
- Estimated Time Requirement: High
SECRETARY- Maintain membership e-mail addresses; work closely with all officers but especially
Membership Coordinators
- Take notes at both executive and general meetings; e-mail type-written notes to
executive committee or all members, as appropriate
- Collect attendance and volunteer lists at meetings and events; work with membership
coordinators to record points
- Forward along e-mails from officers & advisors
- Check mailbox regularly and distribute mail
- Distribute Eye on Psi Chi Magazine to members at next meeting
- Maintain files in office; oversee librarian (grad school files, etc.)
- Skills: Organization, Note-taking, Reporting, Computer (word-processing, e-mail,
facebook, etc.), Attention to detail and accuracy
- Estimated Time Requirement: High
TREASURER- Maintain detailed financial records (report money spent/ earned for each event;
manage income from membership dues, etc.)
- Lead/ monitor fundraising activities
- Apply for Funding from Student government, College of Science and Math (COSM),
Psychology Department for Midwestern Psychological Association Annual Conference
(MPA), and other costly events
- Prepare and collect cash-box for events requiring money exchange
- Note: Fiscal Report due to Psi Chi National office in June
- Skills: Organization, Accounting, Report and Application Writing, Familiarity with Excel
- Estimated Time Requirement: Medium- High
APPOINTED POSITIONS:
MARKETING/PUBLIC RELATIONS
- Advertise upcoming events to faculty and students
- Design flyers and PowerPoint presentations for each club event
- Prepare e-mails for secretaries to send out to members
- Consider other media e.g., facebook, chalking, the Guardian, etc.
- Find representatives to make announcements about activities in their psych classes
- Skills: Creativity, Attention to detail, Spelling and grammar, Graphic arts, Word,
Powerpoint
- Estimated Time Requirement: Medium- High
WEBSITE MANAGER
- Maintain and update website
- Skills: Familiarity or willingness to learn components of web design, Attention to detail
- Estimated Time Requirement: Medium
PHOTOGRAPHER/ HISTORIAN
- Records events of the year for recruitment, morale and year-end activities report
- Help maintain bulletin board and web site with current event photos
- Skills: Digital photography, Graphic arts, Crafty
- Estimated Time Requirement: Low- Medium
MEMBERSHIP COORDINATOR (PSI CHI)
- Bi-annual membership drives following rules set by national office
- Help organize and plan spring and fall induction ceremonies
- Maintain membership files and e-mail lists; coordinate updates with Secretaries
- Estimated Time Requirement: Medium
MEMBERSHIP COORDINATOR (PSYCH CLUB)
- Record attendance/ participation points
- Maintain membership files and e-mail lists; coordinate updates with Secretaries
- Underclassmen recruitment
- Estimated Time Requirement: Medium
POSSIBLE COMMITTEES:
- Any committee may be headed by a member of either Psychology Club or Psi Chi
except for the Academic Committee, which must be headed by a member of Psi Chi.
- Any Psychology Club or Psi Chi member may join a committee.
- This is a great opportunity for members to become active if they cannot make the
time commitments necessary for other positions.
- Committees will be formed as necessary.

- Seek out fundraising opportunities and present findings to preseidents/vice presidents for approval
- Organize the fundraiser with establishment
- Works with PR and secretary to get members to participate/get the word out to the public.
REFRESHMENTS COMMITTEE
- Overseen by Vice Presidents
- Purchase refreshments for the meetings and social events
- Consider amount of people attending, budget, food allergies, etc.
- Chips, cookies, soda, punch, candy are typical.
SERVICE PROJECTS COMMITTEE
- Seek service projects for the club to participate in. This is important for Gold Star Org. and good standing with the House of Reps.
- Organize the service project with establishment/other organizations.
- Work with PR and secretary to get members to participate.
SOCIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE
- Consider social events for the clubs
- Therapy Cafe as a tradition, Halloween Party, Valentines Day party, etc.
- Organize events
- Work with PR and secretary to get the word out to members
